SESSION 703 - Reading from the Crypt: Tales of Archives, Horror, and Dystopia

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Archival themes and materials can be found in surprising places, including bestselling horror, dystopia, and post-apocalyptic novels that at first glance have nothing to do with archives. The speakers in this session show that even in a haunted hotel, a gray dystopia, or a Biblical catastrophe, one can find archives, archival material, and the historical record peeking through and influencing events in ways both obvious and subtle.

Combs: M-O-O-N, That Spells Archives! Archival Material in Stephen King’s "The Stand
Radick: You've Always Been the Caretaker: Archives as a Destructive Force in Stephen King's "The Shining"
Tansey: Back and Back and Back: Memories vs. Records in Lois Lowry’s "The Giver"
